5 Tips for an Enriching Spring Break
With spring break just around the corner, make sure you’ve made your spring break plans or found a spring break program to send your children to. Your children might be looking forward to a week of uninterrupted fun, but you can also set different goals and expectations. Read through our five tips to learn more!
Create a Schedule
Just because your children are out of school doesn’t mean that you have to abandon their routines. You can find a balance between letting your children enjoy their time off while also keeping them busy, motivated, and engaged. Consider creating a schedule for the week they’re home so they still have a sense of structure and meeting certain goals each day.
Establish Rules
This goes hand-in-hand with creating a schedule. Make sure your expectations are clear so your child knows what you expect of them during break, whether that’s helping out around the house with chores, engaging fulling in different activities, or spending a certain amount of time working on school work or other activities.
Find a Spring Break Program
While spring break is a long-anticipated break from school, adults don’t get a spring break. So if you still have to work during the week, find a spring break program with a balance of academic opportunities and fun, active play time.
At Just For Kids, our spring break program is filled with field trips, arts and crafts, classes, active play opportunities, and more. This ensures that your child is getting just the right balance of fun and academic enrichment while they’re not in school. Additionally, you won’t have to worry about your children while you’re at work or gone for the day.
Field Trips
If you have some time to spend with your children over spring break, plan some excursions in your own town or somewhere new. Have you taken some time to explore the city where you live? Are there some places you’ve been wanting to take your children?
While you’re planning out your excursions, add some museums and historical sites to your list! Those provide a nice balance between educational experiences and something fun and different.
Hands-On Experiences
Find some experiments or opportunities that give them hands on experience. When children are at school, they are often confined to what they can do inside the classroom. So spring break gives you the freedom to provide them with hands-on experiences that aren’t possible in the classroom.
For example, the mentos and soda experiment is a great — and messy — learning technique that is harder to do at a school with large groups of students. So take your kids outside, enjoy some fresh air, and show them just what happens when there are too many carbon dioxide bubbles in a tiny soda bottle.
