Spring Activities for Your Children
Spring brings warmer weather and plenty of fun outdoor activities now that the weather is nicer. Right now, many of us might be stuck inside or at home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do fun spring activities with your children.
Today, Just For Kids in Chicago is here with some spring activities that you can easily enjoy from the comfort of your home or backyard!
Fun Spring Activities to Do at Home
There are some easy fun spring activities you can do with your children to keep them active and motivated, even if you’re stuck at home, like:
- Going for a walk or a bike ride
- Jumping rope
- Stargazing at night
- Go through and donate unwanted/outgrown clothes and toys
- Play hide and seek or a board game
While those activities are all great for spring, there are some other fun activities you can introduce to keep spring fun and exciting.
Plant Some Flowers
Is there some yard work you usually do to help get your yard ready for spring flowers? Or do you sprout seeds inside so you can plant them outside when the weather is warmer? Then involve your children in the process!
Work with your kids to teach them how to properly clean out a flower bed. Show them the best way to plant and grow a seed. You can also let them pick some seeds of their own to grow and love!
Plan a Scavenger Hunt
This is a game that can be done both inside or outside. You can also decide who gets to plan the scavenger hunt. Set up something fun for your kids to do, or challenge them to create their own scavenger hunt for you to follow!
Color Some Flowers
If your children love planting and flowers, then do a little science experiment with some flowers. All you need are some flowers, jars, and dye. If you put white flowers — like tulips or daffodils — in colored water, you can change the color of those leaves.
If you want to practice your children’s observation skills, turn this activity into a science experience. Have them observe the flowers at different intervals and record their observations! Learn exactly how to dye flowers.
Plan a Picnic
Just because you’re stuck inside doesn’t mean you can’t do some normal spring activities. Pack a lunch with your children — and involve them in the cooking process. Then take your picnic to enjoy somewhere fun. If you want to stay inside, lay a blanket down in your living room and have a picnic there. Otherwise, you can have a picnic in your backyard or the back of your car!
Make a Bird Feeder
Spring brings birds back. So ensure that you get plenty of birds in your backyard and make bird feeders with your children!
For an easy option, try making a pine cone bird feeder. Just add peanut butter onto a pine cone, roll in bird seed, and hang outside. Otherwise, have your kids get creative and see what kind of bird feed they come up with themselves!
